Awning for the car. That is the topic today.
Hotter and hotter
There's no getting around it: summers are getting more and more warmer. Not only in the South, but also here, temperatures regularly soar to 30 degrees or even beyond.
Inside a parked car, therefore, it also gets warmer and warmer.
If you look at your car's interior thermometer, you've probably noticed that even though it's around 20 degrees outside, it's easily about 10 degrees warmer inside.
This means that all the stuff in your car is exposed to very high temperatures.
Now, many items can withstand that. But if you have, say, a cooler in your car, it has to cool very hard to keep the contents fresh and cold.
Find shade
You can make sure the car is in the shade as much as possible. That will quickly save a few degrees. But in many places there is no shade, or shade comes back into full sun as the day progresses.
To keep the temperature inside the car more under control, you can opt for blinds to cover the windows. There are several solutions for this. But often these do not work very well.
A cardboard or plastic screen in front of the windscreen, for example, helps a little, but not enough.
You can also fabricate something yourself. But that's not easy and usually doesn't really work.
Then there are all kinds of, often cheap Chinese, sets for sale that you attach to the window. These sets often consist of a single layer of plastic that does not block heat. In addition, these sets are universal and never actually fit your windows completely. As a result, they let too much sun through, so the effect is never optimal.
Our solution
We know the issues. As mini-campers, we have been travelling around Europe for years, parking our car in the sun a lot. My solar panel and power station have to work hard to keep my compressor fridge cold.
But if we cover our windows with the carblind blackout kits, the difference in heating is quite noticeable. It then goes a whole lot slower and it also just gets less hot in the car.
You too can keep your car a lot fresher. You can here see whether sets are available for your make and model. And if your car is not listed, ask us about the possibilities of making a set especially for you.
